Hi, I’m Brie like the cheese! 🧀

Hello, and welcome! If you’ve stumbled upon this little corner of the internet, you might be wondering exactly what goes on here. To be completely honest, I’ve been wondering the exact same thing.

When I first set up brianachildershorn.com, I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted it to be beyond the basic professional portfolio. Just leaving it at that didn’t quite feel right. After a lot of brainstorming, I realized the best thing I can do is just share what actually fills up my days.

I’ve decided to turn this website into my personal media, music, and teaching journal. Eventually, I want to offer a class using the Harmonic Series to help master the FUNdamentals as well, but more on that in another blog post…

Why a Journal?

As a classical musician and a teacher, my life revolves around art—both consuming it and figuring out the mechanics of how it works.

We spend hours in the practice room or the teaching studio, navigating frustrations until we finally hit that glorious breakthrough, but those little victories rarely get documented. On top of that, we consume so much great media outside of the practice room—movies, books, and TV shows—that often go undiscussed.

Instead of forgetting the specific teaching trick that finally made a concept "click" for a student, or letting my thoughts on a newly discovered recording get lost in my notes app, I wanted a dedicated space to capture it all.

What’s on the Program?

This site is going to be part digital scrapbook, part practice diary. Here is a sneak peek at what you can expect to see:

The "Eureka!" Files: Chronicles from the practice room and teaching studio. I'll be sharing techniques I find helpful, repertoire hurdles I'm trying to overcome, and those beautiful lightbulb moments when a difficult concept finally makes sense to a student.

Repertoire & Recordings: Thoughts on the pieces I'm currently working on, deep dives into score study, and my takeaways from comparing different interpretations of standard (and contemporary!) works.

Watch & Read Logs: Quick reviews and sprawling rants about the movies, TV shows, and books currently occupying my brain space.

Off-Duty Listening: What I’m listening to when I need a mental break from my own instrument.

Let's Share Notes

More than anything, I want this to be a space where we can share ideas and recommendations. Whether it’s a brilliant new indie film, an interpretation of a symphony you have on repeat, or a bowing technique that saved your life this week—art and education are inherently meant to be shared.

Grab a cup of coffee, get comfortable, and welcome to my journal. I can't wait to get started!
